STATA WORKSHOP

Title of Workshop STATA WORKSHOP
Dates To be advised
Venue Cresta Lodge, Harare, Zimbabwe
Fee To be advised

Stata is among the best softwares for data management and statistical analysis. It is a fast, powerful statistical package designed for researchers of all disciplines. Stata is a complete, integrated statistical package that provides everything for data analysis from data management to basic analysis and advanced analysis. Stata makes it easy to conduct data cleaning and management, distinctly styled graphs, descriptive analysis and advanced analysis. It has both a command line and graphical user interface making the use of the software more intuitive.

With its user-friendly interface and extraordinary analytical and graphical abilities, STATA is the preferred statistical analysis tool for large numbers of data analysts. Its capabilities include a broad range of statistical analyses, plus data management, graphics, simulations and custom programming. STATA empowers users to engage their data in an extremely hands-on and interactive manner, without the need to devote extensive time and effort to programming. Stata is designed to work on data organized in rectangular or spreadsheet format, with rows representing observations and columns representing the variables recorded on those observations.

Datalyst Africa is inviting all interested persons and organisations from any part of this world to a 3-Day STATA workshop to be held (Dates - To be advised) in Harare in Zimbabwe. The 3-day workshop provides intensive, hands-on training in the fundamentals of data analysis and interpretation using STATA statistical software. Participants will be able to produce and interpret basic, intermediate and advanced descriptive and inferential statistics using Stata version 15. Participants will also learn how to use Stata to perform continuous and categorical data comparisons, analysis of variance and regression analysis including multi-variable linear and logistic regression. Participants completing the STATA workshop will have gained the confidence to use STATA to organize and analyse data.

Purpose of the Workshop

Data analysis for many people is a complex process. The purpose of this workshop is to help people learn about data management using STATA. This workshop equips participants with modern data management skills. Participants will develop facility with Stata’s data manipulation commands, its wide array of graphical tools for exploring data and the implementation of frequently used statistical tests and regression models in the STATA environment.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED

DAY 1

  1. Introduction to STATA
  2. Entering, accessing, modifying and organizing data
  3. Opening data sets and getting descriptive statistics
  4. Statistical Graphics Using STATA

DAY 2

  1. Introduction to Stata Programming
  2. Writing Your Own Stata Commands
  3. Do- Files (Running Commands in batches)
  4. Survey Data Analysis in STATA
  5. Correlation in STATA

DAY 3

  1. Regression with STATA – the simple linear regression model and model diagnostics
  2. Hypothesis testing
  3. Multiple regression in STATA
  4. One way ANOVA in STATA
  5. Logistic regression with STATA

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  1. Familiarise with the Stata interface and style of programming language
  2. Summarise basic statistics in Stata
  3. Read existing datasets into Stata
  4. Use Stata's data input-output facilities, writing re-usable Stata code and perform simple data-management and statistical analysis tasks
  5. Modify the data format to make it easier to analyse
  6. Produce and edit graphical displays
  7. Perform intermediate and advanced statistical analysis tests

Who should attend?

The workshop is intended for:

  1.  Beginners, for those who want to brush-up their Stata skills, and for those with knowledge about statistical models or methods who want to know how to implement them in Stata. It is specifically about using Stata rather than explaining statistical concepts or methods.
  2. Anyone who will use Stata regularly in their day to day work as a data management tool or for performing statistical analyses.

Why STATA?

  1. STATA is a powerful, all-in-one, package
  2. Flexible, presentation quality graphics
  3. Rich set of procedures
  4. Extensible - large and continually growing number of (high quality) user contributed commands

Materials Required

Participants should bring their own laptops with at least 1GB RAM and 10 GB free hard disk space or greater.

Registration Fee: To be advised
