SPSS WORKSHOP

Title of Workshop SPSS WORKSHOP
Dates To be advised
Venue Cresta Lodge, Harare, Zimbabwe
Fee To be advised

SPSS is a comprehensive system for editing and analysing all sorts of data. These data may come from any source: scientific research, a customer database, Google Analytics or even the server log files of a website. SPSS uses these data to generate tabulated reports, charts and plots of distributions and trends, descriptive statistics and complex statistical analysis. SPSS has scores of statistical and mathematical functions, scores of statistical procedures and a very flexible data handling capability. It is one of the most popular statistical package, which can perform highly complex data manipulation and analysis with ease. It is designed for both interactive and non-interactive users.

SPSS is one of the most popular software used for research work by businesses, healthcare professionals, non-governmental organisations, survey companies, government departments, students and educational institutions. SPSS has enabled these users to obtain valuable information from their data. The SPSS software is built around the SPSS programming language. Basic users can accomplish most basic data analysis through menus and dialog boxes without having to actually learn the SPSS language. Advanced users can learn to work directly in the programming language, because this is how they document their work, and good documentation is key to both trouble-shooting and replicating complicated projects.

Datalyst Africa is inviting all interested persons and organisations from any part of this world to a 3-Day SPSS workshop to be held (Dates - To be advised) in Harare in Zimbabwe. The SPSS training guides participants through the fundamental techniques (from basic to advanced) of using SPSS for typical data analysis process. We will start with an overview of SPSS (Version 24) and its usage. Participants will learn practically how to pre-code questionnaires, capture data, clean data and perform basic and advanced data analysis in SPSS. The training workshop will provide all participants with hands on opportunity to acquire necessary skills in quantitative data analysis using SPSS. The participants at the end of the workshop will be equipped with appropriate statistical tools that will facilitate data driven decision-making. SPSS perform a variety of data analysis and presentation functions, including statistical analysis, graphical presentation of data, correlation and regression (Linear, Multiple and logistic regression)

Purpose of the Workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce participants to the basic, intermediate and advanced practice of statistics by using SPSS and provide a common platform for the practical learning of the application of statistics through SPSS. The workshop is designed to provide participants with transferable skills, to understand the uses of SPSS, as a tool to summarize and aid in the interpretation of research findings.

Who should attend?

This workshop is ideal for anyone working, or planning to work, with survey data. Thus the workshop will be useful to Business Analysts, M&E staff, Project officers Academicians, Researchers and all those in need of an efficient means of handling and analysing quantitative data.

Why SPSS?

  1. Effective data management - SPSS is easier and quicker to understand and use for the program knows the location of the cases and the variables. It reduces the manual work of the user to a great extent.
  2. Wide range of options - SPSS offers a wide range of methods, graphs and charts to users. It also comes with better screening and cleaning option of the information as a preparation for further analysis
  3. Flexibility - SPSS can take data from almost any type of file and use them to generate tabulated reports, charts and plots of distributions and trends, descriptive statistics and conduct complex statistical analyses
