GIS & REMOTE SENSING WORKSHOP

Title of Workshop GIS & REMOTE SENSING WORKSHOP 2018
Dates To be advised
Venue Cresta Lodge, Harare, Zimbabwe
Fee To be advised

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a powerful tool that combines software and digital geographic data to generate maps, tables and interactive analyses of spatial information. Today, GIS technology has predominantly changed how our world is analysed and modelled. Millions of decisions are being powered by GIS and these include management of Earth’s water resources, development of efficient road network systems, choosing new business locations, solving specific public health problems, predicting climate change, analysing crime patterns and predicting disasters such as flooding among others.

Knowledge of GIS is an increasingly sought after skill in various industries across the globe and this is exactly why we need you to come to Datalyst Africa to get the best training. At Datalyst Africa, we use GIS technology to manage resources, explore spatial relationships and visualize change. GIS is used by many professionals in various fields which include the following: Agriculture, Archaeology, Architecture and design, Business, Education, Government Departments, Engineering, Tourism, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Media, Telecommunications, Municipality, Non-Governmental organisations, Law and crime, Medicine and Public Health, Military Sciences, Public Administration, Police, Public Policy, Real estate, Social work, Transportation and Water resources, Road Safety, Parks and Wild life and many more.

Datalyst Africa is inviting all interested persons and organisations from any part of this world to our 4-Days GIS and Remote Sensing workshop to be held (Dates - To be advised) in Harare in Zimbabwe. This workshop is designed to help participants find their way around QGIS and to understand some of its basic, intermediate and advanced features. It does not assume an understanding of GIS, though if you are familiar with GIS you will be able to move through much quicker. Participants will be equipped will skills required to use the QGIS software in a professional setting. Explore GIS and enjoy a world of data in your hands. On completion of the three days, participants will have a much greater understanding of spatial analytical and processing skills such as buffering, geo-coding, spatial databases, querying and joining. Participants will also have an opportunity engage in real-world projects to use QGIS for solving vector, raster, remote sensing and database problems.

Purpose of the Workshop

To gain a practical understanding of GIS (basic, intermediate and advanced) concepts, techniques and real world applications. Participants will also discover how GIS can be useful at their own workplace or in their research agenda in a descriptive, analytical and predictive manner. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will have a profound conceptual and technical knowledge of GIS and have acquired skills on how to use open source software such as QGIS in their day to day lives.

Who should attend?

We believe that passion and hard work beats talent, so anyone with an interest in GIS should definitely attend this workshop. This workshop is for anyone who can benefit from using GIS to make decisions in their work or research. Participants must be computer literate and able to manipulate data with Microsoft Excel.

Why should you attend?

  1. Almost every business, NGO, municipality, government department or real estate employs GIS to help solve their daily challenges. Therefore, whether your interests lie in natural resource management, health, agriculture, planning, research or a myriad of other disciplines, GIS skills are very marketable.
  2. Datalyst Africa has highly qualified and experienced facilitators.
